Funeral Arrangements for Brian Kijowski #2153

I was able to connect with Brian’s loving wife, Albertine the other day and she was able to provide a more detailed remembrance of Brian’s life and career with the Calgary Police Service:

 

“A small history of Brian Bert Kijowski:

 

Brian was born in New Westminster on October 26, 1951

Brian graduated from Howe Sound Secondary School in 1971

From April to September of 1974, Brian attended BCIT and received a diploma in electronics. Upon graduation he immediately started with CT&S installing telephone lines.

 

In 1977, he applied for the Vancouver Fire Department and Calgary Police Services as he received a call from the both Sevices to join and be a part of their tradition. 

 

Brian chose to protect and serve the communities and citizens of Calgary. 

 

He entered the Calgary Police Service as a patrol officer and moved up the ranks through his career. 

 

Brian served honorably for 27 years from 1978- until his retirement in 2006.

 

He ended his career with a ranking of Detective Sergeant with District One.

 

Achievement during his years of service:

 

1991- Certificate of Merit- In recognition of his actions in the preservation of human life.

 

1999- Police Exemplary Service Medal - recognition of 20 years of loyal and meritorious service to Law Enforcement of Canada.

 

2002- Senior Police Management.

 

After his retirement in 2006,

Brian moved to Kamloops, BC and became the Director of Crimestoppers.

 

In 2006, he also met the love of his life, Albertine Fowler, a police officer in Bloomfield, New Mexico. 

 

Brian and Albertine got married in 2007 and Brian became a stepparent to Albertine's 2 wonderful girls, Stefanee Fowler and Amanda (CJ) Fowler.

 

Also in 2007, Brian and his family moved to Langley, BC where Brian entered into another role as a ministry investigator for the Ministry of Finance (FICOM). He served the Ministry from 2007 to 2009.

 

In 2009, He left the Ministry and became a Manager of Investigations and loss prevention for Prospera Credit Union, in Abbotsford, BC. He served Prospera from 2009 to 2018.

 

On September 14, 2014, Brian became a grandfather to a beautiful granddaughter, Luna Odessa Wilson Fowler, daughter of Stefanee Fowler.

 

In 2017, Brian decided to retire and enjoy his family life therefore, Brian and his family moved to the Okanagan and settled in Coldstream, BC.

 

In 2018, Brian still had the urge to work so he joined the Ministry of Social Development and Poverty as an investigator in Vernon, BC.

 

In 2019, Brian left the Ministry and became the Regional Manager of Cruelty Investigations of animal for the British Columbia Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals - BCSPCA in Kelowna, BC until his final retirement in 2021.

 

In 2022, Brian was diagnosed with Myeloma.

 

On May 14, 2024, Brian's oldest daughter Stefanee and her husband, Ryan Commance lost their daughter Lila Henri Ransom Commance. She was born on May 14, 2024. Brian and his family lost a beautiful granddaughter.

 

Brian courageously fought the cancer until he succumbed to the cancer on July 8, 2024.

A graveside service will be held for Brian in Langley BC on Thursday July 18, 2004. It will take place at the Langley Lawn Cemetery, 4393 - 28 Street, Langley BC. The service will begin at 11:00 hours. Father Jacob from the St. Joseph Parish will be conducting a prayer at the grave site. There will also be a few words from family members and friends.
