Sadly, yesterday our friend and brother, Ted Davis, called me with the news that Lorraine Davis, CPS retired, the beloved Bride of Ted Davis, also CPS retired, passed away peacefully on Sunday Nov 24, 2024. Lorraine was in Tudor Manor, long term care facility in Okotoks AB, suffering the effects of late stage dementia.
Lorraine started with the Calgary Police Department in 1973 as a typist, typing reports that were phoned into the telephone recording system.
After a couple of years and the introduction the CPIC system across Canada, she graduated to a CPIC operator position under various different Patrol Sergeants. Shortly after starting that position she applied for and was appointed as a CPIC supervisor working shift work for many years.
At Christmas 1988, she had to take a leave of absence for a personal family situation and returned in 4 months to begin a position in the Calgary Police Service Property Branch. She remained there for several more years and moved from the 3rd floor of the downtown police building up to a bigger new location in NE Calgary now known as CPS Headquarters, West Winds Campus. She was there for several years and then retired. Shortly thereafter, she came back to CPS as be the Drug Custodian for the collection of drug exhibits, and destruction. She called this the KMA job. She worked part time, and as long as the drugs were dealt with according to the required laws, she could come and go as she needed.
She fully retired a number of years later and together, Ted and his Bride golfed all over NW United States, California, and Canada. They enjoyed many years of retirement in Canada in the warm months and Palm Springs area in the cold months.
Lorraine is survived by a large group of family and friends. A Celebration of her Life will be held in mid-December. Just as soon as I know the date, I will let you all know.
