Passing of Robert (Bob) Legary #2268 As with all our fan outs, please do not repost in whole or in part on any social media sites as this contains personal information intended only for the members of the CPVA. Thank you. Sadly, I have learned that our friend and brother, Bob Legary #2268, passed away from natural causes on Saturday February 15, 2025, at the age of 78. Bob was living in Gold River BC at the time of his death. He joined CPS in 1979 and was able to buy back his military time in order to retire. One of his talents was that of a musician and played the Trombone for the Kings Own Cavalry Regiment. Bob worked in 1 District, 4 District, 3 District and the Traffic Section. He lived a life of service through the Navy, Calgary Police, Army Reserve and many volunteer positions and carried a lifelong reverence, passed on from his father, to remember and appreciate the sacrifices of Canadian military veterans. A service for family and close friends will be held in Gold River BC, on February 22, 2025. Another Celebration of Life will also be held in Didsbury AB at a time and location to be announced. When I hear from the family as to when that will be, I will notify you all. Bob leaves behind his loving wife, Claudine, Children Ryan (Catherine) Legary, Cobi (Dave) Grisack, Kelsey Holmes and his eight grandchildren. If you would like to send the family your words of support and any stories you have to share, please feel free to email his son Ryan at: ryanjlegary@gmail.com Mike Turcotte turc11@telus.net Like with all CPVA fan out emails please DO NOT just hit the "reply" tab but click on the actual email itself to correspond with said name in any fan out notice. Passing of John Witte #1208 Please do not repost this fan out on any Social Media Site in whole or in part. It contains personal information that is intended only for the members of the CPVA. Thank you. Sadly, I have learned of the passing of our brother and friend, Joren (John) Witte, who passed away on January 7, 2025 at the age of 86 in Salmon Arm BC. John had suffered a fall earlier in the year and another recently that fractured his hip. He died from complications as a result of those falls. John served the CPS from 1962 to 1985 when he retired as a Detective. John worked in the K-9 Section, Patrol, CID, GIS and the Robbery Unit. I have spoken with John’s wife, Gwyn, and she is holding up as well as can be expected. The CPVA has offered support and information regarding John’s pension and benefits. Passing of Irvine “Irv” Strand #1094 As with all of our fan outs, please do not re-post on any Social Media Site in whole or in part. The information is intended for the members of the CPVA only and contains personal information as well as a photograph that is private. Thank you. I have learned that our brother and friend, Irv Strand, passed away peacefully on December 25th, 2024 at the age of 90 years. Irv joined the CPS in July of 1955. In 1988, Irv retired after 33 ½ years of service. After being assigned to general duties as a “Beat Cop”, Irv served as a Temporary Patrol Sergeant for many years from 1968 to 1984 in sections including Patrol Division, Advisory Sergeant, Communications and was in the Court Security Section to the end of his career. That is when I knew Irv Strand, considering he joined the Job 3 years before I was born. For those of us old enough to remember, when we testified in Court we were critiqued by the older officers in the Court Unit. God help us if we screwed up our case by not being professional witnesses or even worse, didn’t show up in Court. This is something seriously lacking in the CPS of today. Irv was formally commended for his service 9 times from 1957 to 1978 for his arrests and investigational skills that include the capture of house breakers, robbery suspects, skills dealing with juvenile delinquents and compassion with victims of robberies. Irv was complimented in 1979 for saving the lives of two adults and a child when their trailer caught fire. He was also complimented for the arrest of a murder suspect in 1978 when he and his partner followed the suspect out of the general population to a safe area where he could be safely arrested. I have spoken to Irv’s wife Lenora and she is doing as well as can be expected. If you would like to reach out Lenora, her email is: blenora37@gmail.com I know she would appreciate your support and condolence.
