I have learned that our friend and brother, Moe Elcocks, passed away on Thursday June 20, 2024 after a lengthy illness at the age of 84. Moe joined CPS in 1965 and retired in 1990 after 25 years of service. Moe’s favorite units he worked in were K-9 and the Mounted Unit where his love of dogs and horses made him happy. He also was in GIS as a Detective as well a District Sergeant in District 1 and was well liked and respected. Moe was a quiet man who was no fan of upper management and I was told he was a John Wayne type who didn’t take bullshit from anyone.
A Copper from an era that could lend some of that “True Grit” today. Veterans of my era best remember Moe as the Check Stop Sergeant who ran the weekly Check Stops for years with “volunteers” from all the Districts. Most of us looked at the duty as a chance to get out of our respective Districts and do something different. Moe made the experience a positive thing and always put in Note Worthies for all that served under him each week. Since one “Awe Shit” erased 10 Positive “Note Worthies”, Moe’s Note Worthies came in handy.
At Moe’s request, there will be no funeral service and his ashes will be scattered at Waterton Lake where he loved to fish. Moe and Sandy have no internet access. If you would like to mail a card to Sandy, Moe’s loving wife, her address is: PO 134, Alder Flats, AB T0C 0A0.
If you would like to phone her, the land line (no texts) is 1-780-388-3757.
