Once again I have some sad news to deliver, this time about our friend and brother, Meredith Smith. Meredith passed away on July 11, 2024 after a two year battle with cancer. Meredith was 80 years of age. Meredith Joined CPS in 1973 and retired in 1999 after 26 years of service. Meredith was a TAC Sniper, he worked in the Multi-cultural Unit, the Citizens’ Complaints Unit and was a Detective and District Sergeant in District 6. Meredith had a contagious big smile as well as a big heart. While serving, he met and married his loving wife, Lynda Sharai, who you may recall worked for CPS as a Civilian and also worked at the Calgary Police Association. After retiring, Meredith and Lynda moved to Oregon and settled finally in Lakeview OR, where he spent the remainder of his life.
I spoke to Lynda and she is holding up as well as can be expected. We had a great conversation and she told me how she often thinks of her old friends she made while working at the CPS and the CPA. She told me that Meredith has a daughter named Cinnamon Cranston who lives in Edmonton and also has three brothers. A private family ceremony will take place in Drumheller AB (a special place for Meredith) where his ashes will be scattered.
